P. 93, 1 12-मह आरम्भे, ‘ my labours, viz. of causing the dohada to
be made by Mâlavikâ upon the Aśoka, that it might put forth
flowers
P. 94, 1. 2–जहारुह संमाणसुहिदं &c. The Queen Dhâriņî had invited
also the other ladies of the King's harem to come and see the
Aśoka which had just burst into flowers. Having ahown them
the tree with its flowers, she had just dismissed them, says
the Pratîhârî, and they had gone home highly pleased with the
courteous reception which the Queen gave them severally according to their merites (जहारूहसंमाणसुहिदं ).

renovated, restored to youth.

P. 95, 1. 6–मालविअं अणुणेइ, ’is instructing Mâlavikâ, is getting her
consent' Cf: infra, p. 109, 1.3. MS. G read, अम्हेसु दूरगदेसुवि
धारिणो पस्सपरिवत्तिणिं मालविअं अणुमण्णेदि.
P. 95, 1. 9.-विस्मृतहस्तकमलया. This means, that nothing was wanting
to make Mâlavikâ completely resemble Lakshmî, except that she
had no lotus in her hand. Lakshmî, when she was churned
out of the ocean, is supposed to have come out with a lotus in
her hand. Cf: Mâgha, VIII. 64:-
