ACT V.
P. 92, 1. 7.-बरदारोधोवृक्षेः The Varadhâ is the modern Wurda, a tributary of the Godâvarî. The whole verse means, that while
the king was enjoying the spring on the banks of the Vidiśâ,
his armies, encamped on the banks of the Varadâ, subjected the
chief of the Vidarbhas to his dominion.
P. 92,1 .9.—विरचितपदं &c. It is also possible to take सुरोपम and सूरिभिः as separate words and refer the former to the king-चरितम्
&c. Construe: क्रथकैशिकान् मध्येकृत्य स्थितं (यद् ) उभयोश्चरतं ( त)
विरचितपदम् (अस्ति): where विरचितपदं is the predicate. विरचितपदं means, ‘is celebrated by song; ‘is made the subject of panegyric, ‘विरचितानि पदानि पद्यानि यस्मिंस्तत्.' It is, perhaps, equally
correct to take स्थितं with विरचितपदं, and to consider it as a mere
copula. क्रथकैशिकान् मध्येकृत्य, “ making the Krathakaiśikas the
middle; i. e., putting them as it were in the middle, and the two
heroes, Krishna and Agnimitra, on the two sides, they sing of
their exploites, which were both achieved over the Krathakais'ikas.
Shortly we may render क्रथकैशिकान्मध्येकृत्य by, ‘over the Krathakaiśikas' The Krathakaiśsikas are the same as Vidarbhas. See
our note on Raghuvamśa V., stanza 39-तव and शौरेः are
together exegetical of उभयोः Supply हतवतः after शौरेः. On the
seizure of Rukmiņî by Kŗishņa, here alluded to, see Vishņu
Purâņa, Cap• XXVI.
P. 92, 1. 12.-शौरेः. MS. G reads विष्णोः
P. 92, 1. 13.—जअसहसूइदपथ्थाणो. 'The जअसइ, here referred to, is the
customary formula ‘ इत इतो देव: We may, however, as well
take • जअसद्द' to refer to the panegyric stanzas • परभूत” &c.
and " विचिदं→→ &c. sung by the bards as the King left his
throne.
P. , 1. 16.–मुहालिन्दतोरणं समस्सिदा होमि- ‘Let me put myself under
this arch of the terrace.' मुहालिन्द is the terrace or veranda at
the first entrance of the palace, and the मुहालिन्दतोरण is an arch
cut into the wall adjoining such a terrace.
