अन्पत्तिमूल्नु वयस्सिरट्टियिरुन्तुळ्ळ |
Bereft of poetic grandeloquence, the above verses mean : (1-2) I bow at the feet of my renowned preceptor-father Rama (Rāman Asan), teacher of several great astrologers. (3) I bow also to my teacher's teacher who belonged to the family of Vyaghra-mukha (Puli-mukhattu Potti). (4-5) Again, I bow to his teacher, the renowned astronomer Navayikkulattu Azhati. (6-8) Then again, I bow to his teacher Trppanikkara Potuval of Kolattunad, a veteran among contemporary astronomers. (9-11) I also remember With reverence his teacher, the renowned and versatile Acyuta Pisarati, who was the teacher even of Melputtur (Narayana) Bhattatiri.
The above lineage, which extends to more than 250 years, may be represented as follows, with the addition of the dates of the respective astronomers as known from other sources : Acyuta Pisarati (15501621)->pupil : Trippanikkara Potuva (16th cent.)->pupil : Navayikkulattu Azhati (17th cent.)->pupil : Pulimukhattu (Vyaghramukha) Potti (1686-1758)->pupil : (Raman Asan) (18th cent.)->son-pupil : Krsnadasa (Krsnan Asan) (756-1812). This line of astronomers continues as follows: Krsnadasa (1756-1812)->pupil : Daksinamurti Mussatu of Mangalasseri in Aranmula (18th-19th cent.)->pupil : Balaraman Pilla of Nalekattil family of Mannar (19th cent.)->pupil: Prince Rajaraja Varma (Vidvän Karīndran Ceruņņi Koyittampurān of Kilimanur) (1812-46).
On the above literary evidences and the background of indigenous astronomical tradition, which was very much alive in those days, several such lines, short or long, of scholastic heredity, traceable to Acyuta might be supposed to have existed.
Acyuta’s date
The date of the demise of Acyuta is given by the chronogram vidyatma svarasarpat in katapayadi notation, corresponding to 17.24,514, incorporated in the obituary verse, cited above (p. xi). composed on his death by his pupil Melputtur Narayana Bhațțatiri.
