xxii Padukasabasra before Ranganatha, he prayed by a Sloka that there should be no envy or any other malicious feeling between all the followers of Ramanuja. आपादचूडमनपायिनि दर्शनेऽस्मि TIFaizai a farqeten: 1 आपादशान्तिमधुरान्पुनरस्मदीया नन्योन्यवैरजननी विजहात्वसूया ॥ "For the protection of Ramanuja's system which is unassailable from beginning to end from the attacks of rival Schools, no other prayer bas to be made. Only let envy, which brings about enmity amongst ourselves, desert our co-religionists who are for all outward appearance sweet and friendly." Would that the above prayer were committed to beart by the narrow sectarians of modern times who fight bitterly over the most trivial matters and make themselves ridiculous in the eyes of the thinking world! The prayer had the desired effect during our author's life-time. A stream of love flowed between him and the Teng ilais of the day. While he was at Srirangam, an Advaitic Pandit gave him & copy of Krishnamisra's philosophical drama Prabodhachandrodaya. Our author read the work and immediately wrote the Sankalpasuryodaya, a long drama in ten Acts, bringing out the tenets of his own School. The new work was shown to the Advaitic scholar who was impressed by the author's marvellous powers of composition. The
