LIFE OF SRI YEDANTA-DESIKA. THE 12th and 13th centuries after the Christian era are marked by the rise and development of two great schools of Hindu religion-the Ramanuja Darsana and the Madhwa Darsana. Ramanuja entered a vigorous protest against the Illusion theory of Sankara and emphatically asserted the distinctness of the Individual from the Universal Atman. Taking his stand on the interpretations given in the writings of former Acharyas from whom he quotes frequently, be wrote elaborate commentaries on the Brahmasutras and the Bhagavad-Gita. His earnestuess, sincerity, purity and devotion and his remarkable intellect attracted a large following of disciples from the pick of the learned men of the time. His powers of persuasion were so great that he was able to convert Ims Advaiti teacher Yadavaprakasa to Visishtadvaitism as is proved by the contents of Yatidharmasamuchchaya, a treatise on Sanyasa written by Yadavaprakasa subsequent to his conversion.
