- you.' He means that the entreaties of the zone in his favour,
- being not an ordinary intercession, should be minded by
- Irâvatî. The pun upon the word चरणपतित is apparent. To
- read परिचयवतो, and construe it with अवधोरणा,would be to suppose,
- that the King was always similarly upbraided by Irâivatî for his
- intrigues,
- P.59,1.10.-अव्यपेक्षाच्युतेन, fallen or dropped unexpectedly.
- P.59,1.14–आलम्बते, ’holds up as if to strike the King with it' G
- reads रशनां हस्तमालम्बते.
- P.60,1,4.-कदप्पसदोसि. Ironical.
- P.60,1.7.-जाव अङ्गारओ रासिं विभ सा अणुवक्कं ण करेइ, ’as long as she
- does not return with vengeance like the planet Mars”, which ,
- when it turns back retrogressively to any sign of the zodiac,
- exercises a malignant influence upon the fortunes of any one
- that may have been born under the auspices of that sign. It
- is not only Mars that performs such a retrogressive journey in
- the zodiac, but all the planets except the Sun and the Moon.
- But why Mars in particular is mentioned by the author is
- uncertain.
- P.60,1.10.-प्रियाहतमनाः . This alludes to the King’s passion for
- Mâlavikâ.-प्रणिपातलङ्घनं सेवाम्, because Irâvatî thereby affords
- him a pretext for neglecting her . Cf. Vikramorvaśî, Act II.
- ad. fin .“किं तु प्रणिपातलङ्घनादहमपि तस्यां धैर्यमवलम्बिष्ये "
