(284) अशास्त्रविहितं घोरं तप्यंते ये तपो जनाः । दंभाहंकारसंयुक्ताः कामरागबलान्विताः ॥ ५ ॥ The men who perform severe austerities, unenjoined by the Scripture, wedded to vanity and egoism, impelled by the force of their desires and passions, (5) अशास्त्रविहितं न शास्त्रेण विहितं not, by the Shastras, ordained ; घोरं terrible ; तप्यते endure; ये who; तपः austerity; जनाः people ; दंभाहंकारसंयुक्ताःदंभेन च अहंकारेण च संयुक्ताः with vanity, and, with egoism, and, joined ; कामरागबलान्विता: कामस्य च रागस्य च बलेन अन्विताः of desire, and, of passion, and, by force, filled. कर्षयंतः शरीरस्थं भूतग्राममचेतसः । मां चैवांतःशरीरस्थं तान्विद्ध्यासुरनिश्चयान् ॥६॥ Unintelligent, tormenting the aggregated elements forming the body, and Me also, seated in the inner body, , know these demoniacal in their resolves. .
