PRASNOPANISH AD-BHASHYA 87 By the passage ending with 'svapitityācal gate,' the reply is given to the question what are those that sleep in the persou ?' that those that sleep are the outer organs of sensing and action, The singular in 'svapiti' is with reference to the organs taken individually. IV. 3 & 4. Prānāgnaya evaitasmin pure jägrati. Garhapatyo ha vă eşo'pāno vyāno'nväha. ryapacano yad gärhapatyat pranijate prana- yanadaharaniyah pränah. Yaducchväsanisvāsavetavāhuti samam naya. titi sa samanah. Mano va vāva yajamāna istaphalam evodänah sa enam pajamānam aharahar brahma gamayati. In this city of Brahman) the fires of breath alone are awake. The apăna indeed is the gürhapatya, 'vyana is the anvahāryapacana ahavaniya is prana on account of being taken, as it is from gårhapatya.' Since it makes even the two oblations of the form of inhalation and exhala- tion it is samăna. The mind verily is the sacrificer. Udana verily is the result of the sacrifice, this leads the sacrificar dialy to Brahman. COMMENTARY: Then the reply is given to the question "Which are those that are awake in him?": Prānāgnayah: The fires of the form of breath, prāna, apāna and others alone etasmin pure: In this body referred to as city jāgrati : keep awake; this is the meaning Here it is intended for the sake of meditation to show the identity of Agnihotra with the five breaths, inhalation, exhalation and the mind which keeps awake during the sleep 1.' Garhapetya is that which belongs to the householder 2. Anvaharyapaoana is that fire that cooks the rice culled anvaharya. 3. Pranayanam means taking of the ahavaniya fire from the gärha patya which is kept burning always.
