author of Isanasivagurudeva paddhati. His Guru was Vimala Siva worshipped by Nirbhara Bhumipa. Vaircchana himself does not seem to have been a Yogi, but a prince, the son of Dväranātha, son of Gopāla Bhūpala. 2 Another work on Pratishtha by a disciple of Kumāra Siva who by his name seems to belong to the same line of Gurus, was written at Benares in the early years of the 11th century, as Kumarasiva was the Guru of Mularaja, the founder of the Chalukya Dynasty of Guzarat. (Ms. in A. S. B. dated 1090 A. D.) So Isanasiva's book now presented to the public embodies the teachings of a long line of Saiva Yogins who were very influential all over India during the 9th, 10th and 11th cen- turies and the Mss. of whose works are now found in places, so distant as Nepal and Travancore."
