PREFACE. A note on Īsānasivaguru, the author of Īsānasivagurudevapaddhati, was kindly prepared and sent to me at my request by Mahārahopadhyāya Haraprasāda Sāstri M. Ai, C. I. E, of Calcutta; and I am glad to add the note as preface to this second part of Isānasivagurudevapaddhati. The note runs as follows: "Mahādeva performed a sacrifice at Daruvana from which rose the founder of a line of Munis who successively lived at Kadambaguhit Sankhamathika Torambi, and Amardaka Tirtha--- all in Gwalior State. One of the line, performed severe austerities on Uttama Sikhara. His name was Purandara. He also built another Matha at Ranipattra (Ranipadra), which has been identified with Ränod in the state of Gwalior half way between Jhansī and Gunā. He had many successors: Karachasiva, Sadasiva, Hridaya Siva and Vyoma Siva. Thus the Mattamayüra Vamsa was settled all over Central India from the West Coast to the borders of Magadha. They were greatly respected by the kings of the Chedi, Paramara, Rastrakuta Chalukya lines and their Sämantas. In Saka:960), Briihimasumbu, belonging to the Karkanroni lrlich of this line, wrote : work entitled, Nimittika lirival u ma (V. A.S.B.).
