AMARAKOŚA liv Amara, though he mentions tāmbūlī and tāmbūlavalli (betel vine) in the Vanauşadhivarga ( p. 286 ). The omission is rectified by Malli. in (p. 588) Numerous are such additions that Malli. gives in their appro- priate places. Among words of Amara with doubtful derivations is. viśvasrt, one of the synonyms of Lord Brahmã. Malli. says. that according to Subhūti it is viśvasrk formed by kvinpratyaya; he also gives the opinion of Rabhasa and others who prefer satva forming viśvasrt, quoting the relevant sūtra-s of Pānini in both cases. (pp. 14-15 ) Bhānujī has later confirmed this interpretation; for he points. out that Patañjali has said rajjusrābhyām under the sūtra 'mrjer vrddhih' (VII. 2. 114). The word samkara (dust sweep- ings) is abanta as per the Vaijayanti and ghañanta, i.e. samkārah, according to Visva. .' (p. 207) The word kikādivih (blue jay) in Amara, ‘atha cāsah kikīdivik' (p. 339), is variously interpreted. Both Sürin and Malli.. take it also as two words kiki ( based on its cry) and divih. But Malli. adds that the word is also spelt as kikidivih on the authority of Ratnakośa: (p. 340)
