xliv लोहिताक्षे फले चैव भटानां सिंहनिःस्वने । क्ष्वेडा वंशशलाकायां भटे दन्तोष्ठवाद्यके । (v. 92) Another feature in the Nānārtha section, helpful to students, is the addition of the meanings of the words in fem. gender which have a large number of senses unconnected with the word in the mas. The word harini is dealt with by the side of harinah bringing out the additional meanings pos- sessed by the former ( v. 107) such as the name of a goddess. a metre, a golden statue, etc. हरिणी सुरयोषायां वृत्तभेदपिशङ्गयोः । कनकप्रतिमायां च मृगीहरितयोरपि ॥ AMARAKOŚA Similarly vanita (begging, etc.) which is used in all the three genders has the distinctive meaning of a young ( passionate ) woman in the fem. (vanitā). याचिते सेविते प्राप्ते वनितं स्यात् त्रिलिङ्गकम् | अत्यन्तजातानुरागयोषायां वनिता भवेत् ॥ ( v. 158) for vā (or) : Quotations by Sūrin from well-known authors are few and far between unlike Malli. whose citations are very large in number and Bommaganti who is moderate in this regard. But in the Avyaya section, he quotes liberall For nūnam (surely) he cites: क्षुद्रेऽपि नूनं शरणं प्रपन्ने ... (Kumāra., I. 12) ; (Raghu., XII. 83); अरावणमरामं वा जगत् . for nāma (indeed): अमृतं नाम यत्सन्तः . . . (Fiśu., II. 107); .and for khalu (indeed) : प्रवृत्तिसाराः खलु मादृशां गिरः (Kir., 1.25 ) .
