ivi BASIC MATERIALS The Devanagari transcript which is preserved under No 1124 of the V. V R I Library (Manuscript Section) It was got copied out from a very old and much injured but quite correct Malayalam manuscript in the Kerala University Manuscript Library. The most remarkable thing about it is that it contains the portion from VI, 29, 1 to VI, 47, 17 which is not found in any other man script, known so far, of the work under present discussion f The Devanagari transcript preserved in the Kerala University Manu- script Library under its No 507B, 1 This was collated with fa from VI, 44,9 to VI, 47, 17 being the portion for which only the former was available II. Udgutha's Bhasya on Rgveda A. Previously published edition The edition published by the DA-V. College Research Depart- ment, Lahore m the year 1935 It contains the Bhasya on the portion from X, 5, 4 to X, 34, 3 and is based on the single palm leaf manuserpt f which is being described below. Even though it could not be called a critical edition, it did succeed in improving quite a number of faulty readings of the manuscript and tracing out the sources of almost all the quotations in the Bharya B Manuscripts fv v Research Institute, Hoshuarpur Ms, No 2078. It is an undated palm leaf manuscript, written in the Malayalam script It contaus the Bharja on the portion from X, 5, 4 to X, 83, 6, The Bhagya on the five Mantras (X, 12, 6 to X, 13, 1) is missing It consists of folios 61, size 21*X 2 It has generally, 12 lines in a page and 130 letters in a line Its general condition is not very good It is legible but corrupt Some pages are blank in the middle, The transcript bearing the V V R. Institute Library (Manu- script Section] No 638 It was got prepared from the manuscript No R 4317 of the Madras Government Oriental Manuscript Library in the year 1959, It covers the same portion as is done by ². (n) (u) The transcript belonging to the Manuscript Section of the Adyar Library, Madras, bearing its No 39 B 21. It covers the same portion of the werk as is done by our ft and fr 111 Venkata-Madhavd's Commentary on Rgveda A. Previously printed editions (1) STRI Sambasıva Sastris edition, in two parts, published by the Government of Travancore in the Trhandran Sanskrit Series as the Volumes XCVI and CVX in the years 1929 and 1935, recpectively, grving, together, the Bhanjas of both Skandarsamin and Venkafa Madhava on the first two Adhyayer of the First Astaka This portion of Venkata-Madhava's Rhape is based on three palm leaf manukripts wien in the Malayalam script All the three manuscripts happened to be defective and the Editor had to draw upon his own imagination and ingentity at several places
