IT is well known that there are several editions of the great epic, Vālmīki Ramāyaṇa, with or without commentary. But an authoritative edition of this great work is under preparation in one of our sister Institutes, the Oriental Institute, Baroda.
This Institute, therefore, has undertaken to bring out a critical edition of the same with the Amṛtakataka commentary of the Madhavayogi (about 1700 A. D.). 'Amṛtakataka' is brought to light for the first time.
The Balakāṇḍa has been already published. Now the I Part of Ayodhyākāṇḍa is coming to light. The II Part of Ayodhyakaṇḍa is in press. Other Volumes are under preparation.
Vidwan Sri K. S. Varadacharya, one of the Research Assistants of our Institute, has edited the work ably. I wish to state that it is also intended to give the critical introduction and appreciation of the same in a separate Volume after the whole work is published.
