PREFACE, Vâstuvidya treats of the materials, the ground and other things necessary for house-building, in sixteen chapters. At the end of the 15th chapter which describes the occupation of a newly built house, the manuscript marked contains the colo- phon, ar ; but it then goes on to the end of the 16th chapter which deals with earth and tile-making, as also the other manuscripts used for this edition. It is therefore proper that the 16th chapter should also be a part of the work. many archaic usages (ar) are found in this work as in the Saiva- gama (शवागम) and Vaikhanasagama (वैखानसागम).
