इत्यं विचिन्त्याः सर्वत्र भावाः सन्ति पदे पदे ।
कवितार्किकसिंहस्य काव्येषु ललितेष्वपि ॥
In short, both the author and the commentator are Master-minds and rarely do two such geniuses belonging to opposite Schools of Philosophy meet together in any literary field. As a result of this quite unique and enviable broad-mindedness we have the fortune to possess the most scholarly commentary on one of the precious gems of Sanskrit literature. It is a pity that this poem with its masterly commentary was not made available to the public at large till now. The first six cantos alone were printed in Grantha characters long ago in the usual wretched style and later on, the first twelve cantos were printed in Telugu, characters. Naturally these books had a limited circula- tion only in the South of India as these characters are not generally known anywhere else. Hence we have commenced this present edition which will be published in six volumes of 4 cantos each. To each volume will be prefixed an essay in English by eminent scholars and this will surely be much appreciated by all students. Mr. A. V. Gopalachariar Avl., M.A., B.L., discourses in this volume on the Life of Vedanta Desika. The subse- quent volumes will contain the life of Appayya Dikshita, the History of the Karya literature, Vedanta Desika as a poet, a critical estimate of this Poem, etc.
