By this it has to be understood that Vismu is cet८71८ (Conscious Entity) and non-being is ८८et८272 (imsentient) All insentient things are for the sake of the sentient, to bring out this prominence of the sentient, it is 11amed frst (see R.T. 8. R.s On the basis of vedic statements like 'earth spoke ' the view is held (by some) that every thing is sentient [i.e. there is nothing that is not ceta7८]. To refute this position 7४८t८2 has been used. This v1ew is refuted in cat/ri71d729८di८27272८, the presiding deity section (of Brahma-Sutras). Division into the sentient (certa742) and the like being more prominent than division into the eternal and the like, the former division alone was mentioned first (see K.T.) Now following the order of mention the author (now) gives the division of ८eta71८, (the sentient ) दुःखस्पृष्टं तदस्पृष्टं इतेि द्वेधैवचेतनम् । [दुःखस्पृष्टं तदस्पृष्ट इति द्वेधा एव चेतनम् ।] 1ऽ The sorrow-touched is that (sentient being) which connected with sorrow sometime or other.
