Hence he was coming forward to write an elaborate commentary on the work presenting demonstrations of both types and also giving worked out examples." An examination of Suryadeva's commentary would show that it eminently fulfils the objective set out by its author. 8. Jatakapaddhati-vyakhya (Jātakālaikāra) The Jataka-paddhati, called also Jataka-karma-paddhati, in eight chapters, by Sripati (A.D. 1039), son of Nagadeva and grandson of Kesava of the Kasyapa gotra, is a popular work of all-India prevalence on predictive astrology based on horoscopes. Of the nearly 20 known commentaries on the work,' the Jatakalaikara of Suryadeva is the most popular, especially in South India. The work commences with an invocation on Suryadeva's favourite deity Lord Krsna :' जगदुदयस्थितिसंहृतिकारणमविकारि सच्चिदानन्दम् । श्रीमत् तत् कृष्णाख्यं तेजो मे हृदि सदा स्फुरतु । आचार्यश्रीपतिकृता जातके कर्मपद्धति: । व्याख्यायते मया स्पष्ट सूर्यदेवेन यज्वना ॥ 1.
