chapter, Bharata in his Natya Sastra mentioned ten types of Rupakas and fourteen types of Uparupakas. Kobala is said to have stated twenty and Sāradātanaya named ten Rupakas and twenty Uparupakas. Visvanatha quoted ten Rupakas and eighteen Uparupakas and Agnipurana specified twenty- seven, while Bhoja acknowledges twenty four. Atmrtānanda mentions twenty-six varieties it all like Dattila who also mentioned the same number. Amrtananda copies Dasarupaka for the definitions of all the ten Rupakas and for the rest he might have sought help from other texts wherefrom Bhava prakasa and Natyadarpana obtained the matter .Some stanzas relating to Purvaranga and its elements, he has copied from Natyasastra of Bharata , with slight verbal changes and has modified them into an easy understandable style.

CHAPTER 10. This chapter deals entirely with Nātyā- lankāras. Whereas Bharata mentioned thirty-Six in the 16th chapter of his Natyasastra, Saradatauaya mentioned the Alankāras as sixty-four out of which only fifty-four were defined. Visvanatha in his Sahityadarpana named only thirty-three. The source wherefrom Amtananda has taken the matter for his Natyalankāras is not known as the defini- tions and examples differ in some respects from other texts CHAPTER 11. This chapter deals with Chātn prabandhas which are otherwise known as Ksudra prabandhas. Here Ksndra does not mean low or mean but 1ittle. Kāvyas, the themes of which are small o: short, mainly devoted to the praise of a King or a deity are meant by the term. The source from which our author has gathered matter is not known. much of the text in this chapter is missing. In this the definition of Udāharana, one of the Ksudra prabadhas is dealt with, and the names of some more belonging to this category were also given. Works like Nagabhupaliyam have a chapter on these Ksudra prabhandhas , : but the treatment appears to be different.
