1 AMARAKOŚA दृषदः इत्यूष्मभेदपाठान्मूर्धन्यः । लिङ्गानुशासनपाठात् तालव्यमध्यः (p. 211); दृशत्रिंशः इत्यरुणदत्त- bysī ( ascetic's seat made of holy darbha grass) which is bysi according to Candragomin and brşī in the Viśvaprakāśikā: बृसिमांसीति दन्त्यान्तेषु चन्द्रगोमिः । बृषीति मूर्धन्यान्तेषु विश्वप्रकाशिका (p. 477); işikā (an elephant's eyeball; ‘ the under - surface of the top of the eye-socket of an elephant' 1) and not işikā as per some of the principal commentators such as Svāmin and Sürin (p. 506). Numerous are such clarifications of pronunciation given by Malli., his statements being always supported by appropriate authorities. As a text becomes more and more popular, variants grow like a snowball in its onward march. Malli. takes care to point out such variant readings in the text of Amara. Readings for the word samākhyā ( fame) are given in the work of Halāyudha, in the Vaijayantī and in Rabhasakosa as samākhyā, samajñā and samājñā respectively. (p. 111) In the case of parivāda ( censure ) he has the well-known reading parivādah as illustrated in Ragh. : अत्र परीवादशब्दो दीर्घकारो ह्रस्वेकारश्च भवति । यथा — मा भूत् परीवाद - नवावतारः (p. 112) .. Tamisra (darkness) in the text tamisram timiram tamah can also be tamisrā as it is included in the Prajñādipātha and as Māgha has used it: 1 Given by Edgerton, Apte's Dict., p. 394.
