PREFACE
The Text of the Brahmasidd is based on the under mentioned manuscripts
A. (SrItala) palm-leaf manuscript 2 I x 28 inches in size it consists of 184 leaves of 8-9 lines to a page of which Foll. I to 55 contain the text ; Foll. 56 to 84 contain the commentary thereon by SaikhapaniLeaves 3 to 16 are cut into two : Fol. I4 wants the right part. Leaves I2 to 7 are slightly cut. Leaf 48 is cut and wants the right part. Leaves 49 and 50 are cut into two. Leaf 5 is slightly cutThe manuscript was obtained on loan from the Naduvil Matham, Trichur, Cochin State. The text is complete and the commentary is incomplete. The manu- script is neither old nor recent and is slightly injured.
B. (SrItala) palm-leaf manuscript obtained on loan from Tekkattu Mana, Khumalanallur, Malabar District. It is 234 = } inches in size and consists of 22 leaves of 7-8 lines to a page The manuscript is old, mostly uninjured; but the manuscript is smoky and the border lines are difficult to readowing to blackness Leaf NoI is broken at the edges.
c. (Sritala) palm-leaf manuscript 57% «7% inches in size This was first copied for the Library but subsequently purchased from Payyur Patteri, Porkalam, Malabar District. It consists of 135 leaves of 8 lines to a pageIt is old and fragile. It contains 36 leaves of Vedanta Saptasat and 99 leaves of Brahmasiddhi in complete. (Vide R. Nos. 3250 and 3579 of the Tri. Catalogue of the Government Oriental Manuscripts LibraryMadras.)
II. The text of Saikhapani's commentary is based on the undermentioned manuscripts:
A. Paper manuscript o%x9x inches in size. Foll. 272. Lines 20 to a page. Devanagari script. Good condition. Bound in two volumes. Complete. This was transcribed for the Govern ment Oriental Manuscripts Library, Madras, from a palm-leaf manuscript obtained on loan from the Naduvil Matham, Trichur, Cochin State. (Vide R. 3251 of the Tri. B. Palmleaf manuscript 2 x 238 inches in size. Foll. 28 Malayalam script. Slightly injured. Incomplete. Correctly written. This also was obtained on loan from the Naduvil Matham, Trichur, Cochin State. (Vide No. A. of the manuscript of the text mentioned above.)
