2 examination of the manuscripts therefore, with the view of supplying further details in regard to then- age, &c, or correcting inaccuracies which could not otherwise be determined, was not possible ; but the particulars given in the catalogue will it is hoped prove of service to Sanskrit scholars as a guide to the old literature here extant The lists are exclusive of those previously published, referred to above, some of the works in which were obtained by me on loan for Dr. Eggeling at Edinburgh. Incidentally the present investigation has yielded a rich harvest in bringing to light the interesting and unknown body of Jaina literature belonging to the earlier period of the Kannada (so-called Canarese) lan- guage. These results have been communicated to the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland. It only remains to express my thanks to the Deputy Commis- sioners of Districts for the interest they have taken in procuring the lists of manuscripts, and to K.
