18 PRASNOPANISHAD-BHASHYA [V. 5. this world of men perceives the Transcendent of all trans- cendents resting in the city. There are two verses in this regard. COMMENTARY: Yah: He who by this same syllable which as one- momented and two-inomented brings about inferior results: meditates upon the Supreme Self, abhidhyāyita : meditates devotedly, that is incessantly sah: he, the meditator, tejasi surye : coming into contact with the Sun in the luminous world, padodarah: that which has its belly as its feet, that is the serpent, yatha tvacā vinirmucyate: just as 'the serpent' gets rid of its worn out skin, evam papmană vinirmuktah: even so freed from sin brahmalokam: to the world of the Lord, Vaikuntha, sämabhiḥ: by the Samans, the songs of the Sama Veda, unniyate: is led up. Since there is another pronoun sa papmanā vinirmuktah" here it is explained by Vyāsărya that sasāmabhih must be one word (instead of saḥ and sāmabhih), and it means "By persons singing the Sämans or speaking sweet words". etasmāt : Since it is stated in the Śri Bhāşya, ikșatikarma dhikarana (I. iii. 12) that he who has a body due to action is jivaghana' and that that state is ascribed to the Brahma in the text 'who first created the Brahmā (brahmānam), here the word jīvaghana refers to the world of samsāra. ghana : bere the word 'ghana' refers to one who is embodied, since the word is enjoined by Pāṇini in the sense of solidity' which is called "mürti' in the Sūtra Murtar ghanah' (Panini, III. iii. 77), and since solidity can apply to the soul (only) through its body.
