46 PRASNOPANISHAD-BAASHYA (V... jagatyam: on this earth Abhi: abhyarhitah : great sampadyate: becomes, tam : Him Rcah: the rk mantras manuşyalokam upanayante: lead to the human world: sah: he led to the human world tapasā: practising fasting brahmacaryena: avoiding sexual intercourse śraddhayā: with faith in the other world sampannak: (if he is) full of all these (three) mahimänam: greatness, that is, the meditation ou Brah- man resulting in the Supreme Goal (śreyas-sādhanam) anubhavati : practises. The doubt that how this syllable OM could be a short one since there is no such short sound in respect of the four vowels (e, o, ai, au) all of which are conveniently called by Pāṇini 'Ec' (pratyāhāra), need not be entertained since such a short sound is found in colloquial usage. V. 4 Atha yadi doimãtreno manasi sampadyate so 'ntarikşam yajurbhir unniyate sa somalokam. Sa somaloke vibhūtim anubhūya punaravartate. Then if here occurs in one's mind meditation by the syllable OM with two moments one is led to the sky by the yajus, to the lunar world. He after enjoying greatness in the lunar World returns (to birth in this world). COMMENTARY: Atha yadi......: By the syllable Om of the duration of two moments if one meditates in his mind on the inferior Brahman, one is led by the Yajus (mantras) to the lunar world which rests in the sky.
