T is indeed a matter of pleasure that we have IT been able to publish this volume along with its preceding one, Ayodhyakanda, Part II. Vidwan Sri N. S. Venkatanathacharya has executed the editing work very ably, within a short time. His enthusiasm is really appreciable. We offer our thanks to the authorities of the Mysore Palace Sarasvati Bhandara, the Kudali Srngeri Mutt, and the Government Oriental Manu- scripts Library, Madras, who kindly lent their manuscripts of Kataka, for collation. We are thankful to the Superintendent and staff of the Government Text Book Press, Mysore, who co-operated with us in our endeavour to bring out the volumes early.
