followed by recognition through some potent means, such as signet ring, Mani which brings about union, According to Pratyabhijua Philo- sophy, the realisation of the identity of self with God takes place through recognition of the divine self. On the other hand, it is just possible that Kalidasa independently of this System, might have invented this theory to embellish his plots and to secure unity of action. Prof. Kalla has for the first time placed before the world this new phase of thought in his study of Kalidasa. It is for scholars to examine it in their own way. One has also to study the folk-lore current during Kalidasa's time to solve this problem. Part V of this book contains the sayings or

words of wisdom in the form of maxims to be

met with in the works of Kalidasa. They clearly show that Kalidasa was a great and shrewd observer of human nature in all its aspects.
