'The proper title of the work composed by Brahmagupta, upon the foundation of an earlier treatise bearing this name, is Brahma sphota-Siddhénta corrected BrahoSiddhinta, but the word &p%at, corrected, is frequently omitted in citing it, 3 ha£ been our own usage in the notes to the Shrya-Siddh&nbs. Colebrooke possessed an inmperfect copy of i', and was also in Bentley's possession. Upon it was professedly founded, in the main, the siddhanta. iromani of Bhaskara. 4, RowAdia-iddhanta, Of the name of this treatise, the only one we have thu f; met with which is not dorived from a real ot supposed author, we have spoken in the note to i. 4.6. It is said by Golebrooke fo be by grishept, and to have been foundled in part upon the original Vasishtha-Siddhant " its eatly cate is proyed by ts being one of those treated 18 authorities by Varaha-mihira. Nb copy of it seems to have been discoverod in later fires, (ur list also nmentions | Bh¢ja-Siddhanta, probably teferring to some astronomical work published during the reign, on under the patronage, of Raja Bhoja Devu, of Dhaखेंin the tenth or eleventh century of our era. IV. Our fourth class is headed by the Biddhanta-ciromani, written in the twelfth century by Bhaskara Acaryn, an founded upon the Brahma Siddhीntal of Bx.hmagupta. Jur numerous references to it and citations from it indicate the prominent Pad important position which it occupies in the modern stronomical literature of J. For = doscription of the numerous commentaries upon it, sec colcbrooke's Hinflu Algebra, note A (seays, ii. 450, etc.) The longer of the lists given above mentions two or three other works ot yet later date. Annng them the Siddhanta-Sundara is the moste ancient, having been composed by Jiीn-r&ja at the beginning of the sixteenth century. 'The ruha-Laghavy, is a treatise of the sanne class, and is highly considered und much used throughout Indi although itted from the has list. It is of nearly the same date with the work last spoken of being the composition of Ganeza, and dated c. 1442 (A.D. 1620). The Siddhanta 'Tattvी-Viveka, thoro usuall styled the athbva-Viveku simply is a century later ; it was written by Kamalakara, about A.D, 1820. The SiddhinteL-Sarvnbhauma dates frorm very nearly the same period, and is the work of Muniqara, ho is also the author of a commentary on bas ironmiand the son of Rangnj%ha, the commentator on the Shryघ ddaथैnta, This class of astronomical writings might be almost indefinitely extended, but the works which have been mentioned appear to be thhe most authoritative and important Of all the treatises whose name8 we have cited, we know of but three which have as yet been published_the Shrya-Siddhanta, the Siddhanta
