Of this Siddhante we knd mention only in Such native lists as onit thB preceding. Hence we are led to conjecture that the two names may indicate the same work; an ubtempt, founded upon the similarity of the same, having been made by some to attribute the Phuli¢a-Siddh&pta to a known and acknowlodged Hindu sage. 6. Wa888aa-Siddha. I'his work is spoken of as actually in existence by both Colebrooke and Bentley, 2nd the latter states its aystem to correspond with that of Ahe Sirya-Siddh^nta. More than one treatise bearing the name is referred to, the older ote being of unknown authorship, and bhe other a later compilation founded upon this, by Vishnu-candr, who is said als to acve derived his material in part from xybhatta. A Gopy of a Vyaba-Vasishtha-Siddhवैata formed a part of he Mackenzie Collection (Wilson's Catalogue, i, 121) 1. to the third class may be assigned the Siddhantas of Aryabhatta, Varaha-mibiaand Brahmagupta, and the Ramaka-Siddhanta, as well as the later version of the Vasishtha-Siddhीnt, last poken of. The firs; bhree names are those of Kyeatest prominenco and highest importance in the history of Hindu astronomical Science, and there is every reason to believe that the sages who bore them liyed about the tinue whca bhe modern system may be supposed to the we received its fina and fully developed fornor during the fifth and sixth centuries of our era. 1. Varia-Siddhisto. The only distinctively astronomical work of Varaha-mihira appears =o have been his Paisa-siddhantika, or Compendium of Five Astronomies, of which we have already spoken (note to i. 2-8), and which was founded upon the Brahma, Sirya, Phuliga, Vasishtha, and Romka Siddhantas , It is supposed to be no longer in existence, although
