When the sun and moon are upon the same side of either solstic0, and when, the sum of their longitudeg being a circle, they are of equal declination, it is styled photc. 2. When the room and sun are uppn opposite sides of either 8olstics, and their minutes of declination are the same, it is gatpital, the sum of their longitudes being a half-circle. 3. Owing to the mingling of the nets of their equal rays, the fre, arising from the wrathfulness of their gaze, being driven on by the provoctor (prabahc), 3 originated unto the calamity of mortals. 4. Since a fault (pitc) at this time often causes the destruc tion of mortals, it is known as ygatip¢t, or, by a difference of title, oddh¢ti 5. Being black, of frightful shape, bloody-eyed, big-bellied, the source of misfortune to all, it is produced again and again. of all the chapters in the threatise, this is the one which has least interest and value. It is styled phthondre, < chapter of the p¢ta8,” and oncerns itselt with giving a description of ths malignant character of the finks when the Sun and moon have equal declinetion, upon the same or ०७posite sides of the equator, and with laying down rules by which the tire of occurence of those malignant aspects may be calculated.
