ifi SUBY A SIDDHANTA Hsre we see the modern book follow the KhaAcc०bidyaka, but the figures of Varaha's Satya Siddhivrtta show that there Jay a Surge Siddhanta before his tim28 7d that he did not think it शee88ary to courge these elements. G. Number of Co@z& + ¢ Madguge. According to the King Z¢d¢hidgulkar =157917800. Varghak's S. Siddhant =1B77917800 the modern S. Sidate =1577917828, whiclh shows an excess of 28 days, evidently a later innovation done by some unknown person after the time of Varॐha at least Now as the H%a?8¢d%idgaka conth1bts are taken from Arya bhata 'a arthari ti%4 (to idnigb3system of strotomy and as the constants of the Sirgo Sid}uta of Varaha as given in his Paj¥ca Siddint¢ki are airpost the same as those of the Khand khadgase, it is clear that the old Surya Sidhlife was made up to date by Varjha by replacing the old constants in it by new one5 from Aryabhat & T’s 'nnidnight ' system.* A subsequent redactor of the S¥rge Siddharty changed he constants as intro duced by Varaha by following Brahmagupta's teachings in his Brahmasphuta Sidd%t¢ End the Uttara K} £a¢a}i@yaka, as has been shown above in the elements under the heading5 B and c. He also made other changes as have been noted already under bhe headings A aud g Thus from a comparison of astronomical constants we have established that there was a book named the Srge Siddhanta before Varaha's firme. vardha was one of the firs; to im. prove upon it and make it up to date . The present redaction took place decidedly after the time of Brahmagupta. In ourse of time even these changed constants were thought out of date, and according to Bentley at about the beginning of • C. P. C. Bengupta, Introduction to the KMajhakyaka,
