of Siva, as can be seen from the introductory verse of the play, cannot be identified with this Bodhayana who was probably a staunch devotee of Vishnu. Neither is it possible, as was rightly pointed out by Sri Sastri, to identify him with another Bodhayana the author of Kalpasutra, because our author seems to be the follower of gnanamarga where as the author of Kalpasutra, was probably the follower of Karmamarga. Therefore this Bodhayana must be a different person, praised by some later writers as a great poet, in the line of Bilhana and Murari.

“यैर्बोधायन सूक्ति पुष्प कलिकाः कर्णावतंसीकृताः
येषां बिल्हण सूक्ति मौक्तिक सराः कण्ठानलंकुर्वते ।
माधुर्यैकभुवाम् मुरारिवचसामास्वादि यैस्स्वादिमा
सन्तुष्यन्तु त एव नूतनसुधावेणीषु वाणीषु नः ।"

Date of the play :- This Prahasana Was mentioned by king Mahendra Vikramavarman of the Pallava dynasty, at the beginning of the 7th century, in the Mamandur stone inscription along with his own Prahasana, Mattavilasa. On the strength of a quotation in this play from Tattvasamasa, one of the oldest works on Sankhya philosophy (शाण्डिल्य :- सुणादु भअवो "अष्टौ प्रकृतयः, षोडश विकाराः, अात्मा पञ्च वायवः, त्रैगुण्यं मनः संचरः प्रति संचारश्चेति"), and a classification of dramas in ancient mode ("सूत्रधारः-... नाटकप्रकरणोद्भवासु वारेहामृगडिमसमवकारव्यायोगभाणसल्लापवीथ्युत्सृष्टिकाड्कप्रहसनादिषु नाट्यरसेषु
