xxii आश्वलायनगृह्यसूत्रभाष्यम् gäthä¹ also occur in the sutra-s. One of them is called so by the Sūtrakāra himself (tad eşābhi yajñagāthā giyate...) and the other is designated as such in the Bhasya. According to Gargya Nārāyaṇa (on Srauta-sutra 5. 5. 21: gäthäśabdena brāhmaṇagată ṛca ucyante) Yajñagāthā-s are verses belonging to the Brāhmaṇa-s. The two Yajña- gāthā-s quoted in the sutra-s are: पाकयज्ञान् समासाद्य एकाज्याने कबर्हिषः । yafequcha: Hafenanfa afa ĉaà 11 (1. 3. 11) नोद्धरेत् प्रथमं पातं पितॄणामर्घ्यपातितम् । enganeda faosfa fuae: Alaìsadia 11 (4.7.15) It has been shown elsewhere that the Grhyd-sülra is a continuation of the Srauta-sutra and this is in fact supported by the manuscript tradition also. Besides the express statement in the beginning of the Grhya- sutra (1. 1. 1: uktāni vaitānikāni grhyani vaksyāmaḥ) that 'so far the Śrauta rites are expounded and the Grhya rites will now be explained' there are several direct references to the Srauta-sutra in the Grhya-sutra. For the sake of easy reference they are collected together below: 1 P. Horsch, Die vedische Gäthä- und Sloka-Literatur, Francke Verlag, Bern, 1966, p. 218; cf.
