लदापासेण बन्धिअ गेण्ह एणं बम्हणं दुव्विणीकण्णाअं अग्गदो करेहि" &c.
(P. 46, 1, 19 et seqq . Calc. Ed. Sam. 1921.)-कपोदो. This word
is still preserved in the Konkaņî कौडो or कवडो, the spotted dove.
P.86,1.10–उभिण्णो दुगप्पओओ. This seems to mean: ’this rogue of
a Brahman himself concocted and carried out the design of taking
the fortress, i.e., of liberating Mâalavikâ and her friend from the
safe custody of Mâdhavikâ. All our MSS, and also G, have दुग्ग.
G reads, however,ऒछ्छिण्णो for उभ्भिण्णो.
P.86,1.13.—G has " णं मए अत्तभवं पवेसिदो हवे," for तदो गाअत्तिंपि &c.
P.87,1.12. -सपख्खो, your friend, your caste-fellow: Vidûshaka
means, that the Storm which was going to burst on his own head was
averted by the monkey, who, by frightening the girl Vasulakshmî,
made Irâvatî to forget her revenge and to tell the king to depart,
and thus to give him an opportunity of leaving the place without
further trouble. Vidûshaka is not only regarded by others as
belonging to the fraternity of animals, but even he himself does
so in keeping with his character as a buffoon. Cf. Vikramorvaśî
