KENOPANISHAD-FOURTH KHANDA 9 17 We have already tauglit you the inportant Upanisad that instructs you about Brahman. Therefore the important Upanişad has already been taught. If you wish to hear the Upanisad concerning the subsi- diaries (to the Brahma-oidyā), I shall teach you. This is the idea. IV. 8. TASYAI TAPO DAMAH KARMA CA PRATIŞTHA VEDAH SARVAKGAY SATYAN YATANADI. Austerity, Continence, and Action are the means for getting established (in Brahman). Vedas, (and) all its subsi. diaries, (and) truth, are Its abode. tasyai tapo damaḥ karma ca: The means of the Upanişad already described are tapes which means the emaciation of the body, the restraint of the organs and the performauce of actions (such as Agnihotra etc.), (nityanaimittika). pratisthā : means of getting the Brahman's kuowledge called Upanişad established. Vedāḥ: The Vedas with their six subsidiaries and truth- speaking are the cause of birth of Brälımic knowledge. This is the meaning IV, 9. YO VA ETĀDI VEDĀPAHATYA PAPMANAM ANANTE SVARGE LOKE JYEYE PRATITISȚIATI PRATITIŞTHATI Whoever knows this (Upanışad), shorn of his sins, establishes himself in the Svarga world, infinite and trans- cendent Etâm: He who knows this Brabman-knowledge with the pratisthū (means) and äratano (abode) described already, shaking off all his sips gets established in the svarga-world that is, the Vaikuttha world, the most transcendent, beyond the limitations of time. This is the ineaning. Srargaloka : The term 'svargaloka' means the world of Bhagavao on account of co-mention with the words 'Infinite' and most transcendent.'
