'ज्यलीको नागरे स्मृतः, व्यलोकमप्रियाकार्यवैलक्ष्येष्वपि ताउने' इति विश्वः, प्रहर्षिणीवृत्तम्. P. 162. L. 17-18 (Verse 1). I don't meet my love to-day. My left eye is throbbing. My heart feels troubled though without a cause, sarg metre, These are all ill omens and forebo:le impending calamity. Accidental mecting with a S'ramanaka--- Bauddha mendicant portends death. 'श्रमणो यतिभेदेन निन्धजीविनि तु त्रिषु' इति मेदिनी. P. 162. L. 19. [अनाभ्युदयिकम्.] The sight of a श्रमणक is consider- ed as inauspicious. Cf. Muslrâráks'us p. 174. Act VIII. P. 163. L. 2. [आईचीवरहस्तो भिक्षुः.] Mendicant with wet vest- meat in hand. He is alluded to in the last act and is our old acquaintance Samvâhaka, P. 163. L. 4-5 ( Verso 1). Restrain your abdomen (i. e, ap- petite ), beat the clrum of meditation and be vigilant. The senses, the dangerous thieves peculate the long acquired virtue. Cf. Manu. -बलवान् हन्द्रियग्रामो विद्वांसमपि कर्षति.-[अणिञ्चदाए.]-अनित्यतया प्रेक्ष्य संसारमिति शेषः. आर्या Metre. P. 163. L. 7-8 (Verse 2). He who conquers the five (senses) and destroying ignorance (lit. a female) protects himself (lit. the village) also kills the despicable (egotism) most surely, goes (lit. enters) to heaven. The words जनाः, स्वियं &c. are all लाक्षणिक (indicatory, having wecondary sense). वैतालीयं वृत्तं-'ष विषमेऽष्टौ समे कलाताश्च समे स्युनों निरन्ससः न समात्रपराश्रिता कला वैतालीयेन्ते रली गुरु:.' P. 163. L. 9-10 (Verse 3). Why shave the head and chin when mind is overwhelmed with ignorance (lit. not shaved). Certainly he has his head beautifully shaved whose mind is wholly purified.
